Harold McCracken was recognized as one of the foremost American
experts in the field of Western Arts. A biographer of the first rank, he
produced the definitive works on the lives of Frederic Remington and
Charles M. Russell, the greatest Western American Artists.
His most formidable work, “The Charles M. Russell Book,” was published
in 1957 by Doubleday and Company. 25 years in the making, this
magnificent volume is the largest and best collection of Russell’s works,
containing 35 full-color paintings, many of them double-page spreads,
plus over 180 of his pen and ink drawings.
